42 WCLers drafted

VANCOUVER — A total of 42 West Coast League alumni were drafted this week by Major League Baseball teams, including two in the first round and two by the Seattle Mariners.

No Port Angeles Lefties were selected in this year’s draft. The most successful player drafted out of the Kitsap Bluejackets/Port Angeles Lefties franchise has been Tarik Skubal, a Cy Young award-winning pitcher for the Detroit Tigers.

Pitcher Tyler Bremner (UC, Santa Barbara), a former Corvallis Knight, was taken No. 2 in the first round by the L.A. Angels. Shortstop Aiva Arquette (Oregon State), a former Wenatchee AppleSox, was taken seventh overall by the Miami Marlins.

Corvallis, a perennial powerhouse in the WCL, led the league with 10 former players picked.

The Mariners picked two former WCL players — Catcher Grant Jay of Dallas Baptist was picked in the 12th round. He played for Cowlitz. Outfielder Aiden Taurek of Saint Mary’s College (Calif.) was picked in the 13th round. He played for the Portland Pickles.
