AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: White Crane expanding instruction

PORT ANGELES — White Crane Martial Arts in downtown Port Angeles has made changes and will offer more variety to its schedule starting with the winter quarter in 2022.

The taekwondo classes taught by Hall of Fame Grandmaster Robert Nicholls will be further divided for better overall instruction with the students in three groups instead of two. Beginners (white, yellow and orange belts) will train Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Intermediate students (green, blue and purple belts) will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while advanced students (brown, red and black belts) will receive instruction from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In addition, all students are eligible to take the gumdo sword-fighting class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m. at no extra charge. On Tuesdays, tai chi is available after gumdo sword classes.

Marcus Tanner is teaching kajukenbo in the late slot after taekwondo at 7 p.m. The biggest change is the addition of weekend classes and an open gym.

The gym will open at 11 a.m. for morning tai chi, forms class is at noon and sparring is at 1 p.m. Students can use the training equipment during these times without partaking in the classes.

The White Crane staff of black belt and master instructors is hoping to expand the club, now in its 16th year in Port Angeles, by making these changes.

More information can by attained by calling White Crane at 360-808-2271 or by visiting the dojang at 129 W. First St. and watching a class in session.

White Crane only allows fully vaccinated people in the building and everyone must wear masks during their visit except those too young to do so, until the Clallam County Health Department recommends otherwise. The facility is also available for birthday parties during non-class hours.
