Clallam 4-H shooters

CARLSBORG — Clallam County 4-H members defeated Scarborough Fish and Game Association 1,357 to 1,287 last week in the National Air Rifle League.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions.

Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored over the 40 shots is the athlete’s total.

The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.

Levi Bergren led the Clallam team with a high score of 370 (37 of 40 shots). The remaining contributing members were Cheyenne Maggard, Bailey Geniesse, and Mikayla Geniesse. Clallam County 4-H is based in Carlsborg and is coached by Seth Geniesse.

The Clallam team will compete against North Gwinnett High School from Sugar Hill, GA. North Gwinnett High School currently has a 2-1 record

These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs.

The league has two parts. An eight week, round-robin regular season, followed by a single-elimination league championship tournament for the top eight regular-season teams.
