AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Volleyball league needs more men

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Volleyball League gets under way Oct. 25 and there is a need for a few more male players in both the A and B divisions.

Last AAU tryout

PORT ANGELES — The last scheduled tryout sessions for Port Angeles Youth Basketball’s boys AAU program are set Sunday at Stevens Middle School.

Players in fourth through sixth grades will meet from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and those in seventh and eighth grades will meet from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

PORT ANGELES — Tryouts for the Port Angeles Youth Basketball’s girls AAU program for grades four through six are set for Monday and Wednesday at Roosevelt Elementary School.

Registration will begin at 5 p.m., with the tryouts running from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. each night.

PC men fall

BELLINGHAM — In a four-way fight for the NWAC North Region title, the Peninsula College men’s soccer team suffered a 2-0 road defeat to Whatcom on Wednesday.

The loss bumped Peninsula (8-3-2, 11-3-2) into a three-way tie for second with Everett and Skagit Valley behind the Orcas (9-1-3, 10-2-3) with five regular season games remaining.

Whatcom notched goals in the fifth (Flavio Espinoza, assisted by Hidemasa Saito) and 62nd minutes (Masamichi Maeda, assisted by Espinoza).

Peninsula was limited to four shots, none on goal, offensively.

The Pirate men will visit Clark on Saturday.

Peninsula’s women’s team earned a 1-0 forfeit win over Whatcom.

The Pirate women (7-0-0, 9-0-1) will visit Shoreline on Wednesday.
