All-Nisqually hoops honors for Botkin, Vailolo & Rimson
PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson athletes were named to the 2023-24 All-Nisqually League Girls Basketball team in voting conducted by league coaches.
Sophomore post Penina Vailolo was a first-team All-Nisqually League selection after leading the Rivals in points per game and rebounds.
Junior point guard Kay Botkin was picked as a second-team selection.
East Jefferson head coach Lorraine Rimson was picked as the Nisqually League Coach of the Year.
Bellevue Christian sophomore Olivia Reynolds was voted league MVP.
First team selections are Bellevue Christian’s Kiana Skogstad; Annie Wright’s Aaliyeh Martin and J’Lyn Doodigian; Life Christian’s Grace Mattson; Alisa Scott of Cascade Christian and Paige Brink of Charles Wright.
Second team picks are Bellevue Christian’s Addi Tayloir and Rocklyn Osborn; Klahowya’s Bailey O’Brien; Cascade Christian’s Brooklyn Whittington and Marissa Linkem and Annie Wright’s Leah Kearns.
Guzman, Dow second-team
PORT TOWNSEND — Three East Jefferson boys basketball players were honored with spots on the 2023-24 All-Nisqually League Boys Basketball team in voting held recently by league coaches.
Rivals’ seniors Keidan Guzman and Stuart Dow each earned second-team selections while fellow senior Brody Moore was an honorable mention pick.
Annie Wright senior Martin Kaupanger was voted Nisqually League MVP. Kaupanger and the Gators finished second in state, falling to Zillah 47-45 in the Class 1A championship last week.
First-team picks are Jacob Janho of Cascade Christian; Annie Wright’s Jeremiah Harshman; Life Christian’s Darius Imperial and Jabez Boys; Bellevue Christian’s Carter Calkin; Klahowya’s Eli Kraft and Charles Wright’s Benjamin Parrish.
Second-team selections are Cascade Christian’s Josiah Gopaul; Annie Wright’s Reggie Lester and TJ Marshall; Seattle Christian’s Sam Althoff and Drake Penberthy of Bellevue Christian.
Bellevue Christian’s Shawn Skogstad was picked as coach of the year.
Freestyle wrestling
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Wrestling Club’s freestyle season for ages 6-through-18 will begin Monday and continue through May 4.
The cost is $90 per wrestler and includes a USA Wrestling Card. Those who wrestled during the club’s folkstyle season will pay $35.
Discounts are available for families with three or more wrestlers. Scholarships also are available.
Practices will be held at the club space on the second floor of 112 N. Lincoln St., from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays.

Youth baseball clinic
SEQUIM — The Sequim Wolves varsity baseball team will host a baseball clinic March 16 for all players in grades three through eight.
The clinic will be held at the Sequim High School baseball fields with registration at 8:45 a.m. and instruction from 9 a.m. to noon.
The cost is $25 per player and each attendee will receive a Wolves T-shirt and a snack.
