Avalanche Black win Tumwater tournament

TUMWATER — Next Door GastroPub’s Avalanche Black eighth-grade girls basketball team went 4-0 in winning the 29th Annual KVA Memorial Tournament in Tumwater last weekend.

“Millie Long was outstanding for us this weekend on both ends of the floor,” coach Joe Marvelle said.

“I thought our defense played lights-out in all four games and really limited our opponents scoring opportunities.”

Avalanche Black defeated Shelton 46-21 to open play with Long scoring 15 points, grabbing seven rebounds, five steals and three assists.

The Port Angeles-based team then destroyed Toledo 56-14. Hannah Reetz scored 15 points and MJ Cooke had 11 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and an assist.

Long posted a team-high 17 points and seven steals in a 48-15 victory over Tumwater. Cooke scored eight points with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Avalanche Black defeated 90/10 34-11 in its fourth and final game. Jada Cargo-Acosta scored six points with six rebounds, two steals and a block.

Rider hoops benefit

PORT ANGELES — The Rumble on the Ridge, a men’s basketball tournament that raises funds for the Port Angeles High School boys basketball team, will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23.

The tournament will be held at Port Angeles High School.

There is a four-game guarantee, with pool play scheduled Saturday and single-elimination games Sunday.

The entry fee is $250 per team.

Prizes will be awarded and awards will be given out.

A 3-point competition also will be held.

There also are raffles.

Admission is free.

Joyce hoops tourney

JOYCE — Registration is open for the Second annual Logger Men’s Basketball Tournament in Joyce on Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19.

The tournament is open to players 18 years and older and has a four-game guarantee. It will have a pool play format followed by bracket play to determine an overall champion.

The winners will receive championship T-shirts.

The entry fee is $225 per team.

Proceeds will benefit the Crescent High School basketball program.
