NEAH BAY — Neah Bay football players Seactis Woodruff, Adan Ellis and Jodell Wimberly were named to the 2024 All-State 1b first-team by the Washington State Football Coaches Association.
Woodruff was one of only five 1B players named on both offense and defense. He was named on offense as an offensive lineman and on defense as a defensive lineman. Wimberly was named to the offensive team as a running back and Ellis to the defensive team as a defensive lineman/end.
Wimberly for the year had 1,342 yards rushing and scored 26 touchdowns. For his career, he had 5,641 yards rushing and 97 touchdowns. Ellis, who was an outstanding receiver for the Red Devils, had nine sacks on defense and 22.5 for his career.
Woodruff had 55 tackles on defense, including 19 for loss. He had 85 tackles his junior year, including 12 for loss.
New ski film
PORT ANGELES — On Jan. 16 at the Port Angeles Field Arts & Events Hall, the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation will present the latest Matchstick Productions film, “Calm Beneath Castles.”
This ski film delves into the heart, soul and mind of skiers driven by an insatiable thirst for adventure and discovery, exploring the essence of finding solace in nature. Following the world’s best skiers to breathtaking locations, it captures their quirks, instincts, and passion as they prepare and take on various mountains.
The film is a testament to their extraordinary skill, courage and determination, showcasing their connection with nature and the tranquility they find beneath towering castles of snow.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and drinks and light fare will be available upstairs in the Sunset Lounge along with drinks in the lounge after the film.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.hurricaneridge.com. Advance tickets are $15, children 18 and under and college students with student ID are $10 and tickets at the door are $20.
The Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation will host a raffle at the event with Eddie Bauer gear, Fairwinds Winery Tour, MSR Bikepacking Tent and other items. There will also be Hurricane Ridge merchandise for sale.

Wood shines at PLU
TACOMA — Former Port Angeles Roughriders girls basketball player Jaida Wood had the best game of her Pacific Lutheran University career this past week.
Wood, a senior who has played four years for the Lutes, had a near double-double, scoring 15 points and had eight rebounds in a 56-53 loss to Whitworth on Friday. It tied her career high for points in a game. In December, she had a 10-rebound game in an 82-75 overtime loss to Northwest.
Wood, a 5-foot-9 forward, was part of remarkable teams that made repeated trips to state and went 15-0 in the pandemic-shortened 2021 season at Port Angeles High School. Her high school teammates Millie Long (Alaska-Anchorage), Eve Burke (Linfield) and Bailee Larson (Lower Columbia CC) have all gone on to have successful basketball careers in college.
Razor clam digs
OLYMPIA — Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife shellfish managers confirmed seven days of razor clam digs on coastal beaches beginning Friday.
“This upcoming tide series should be a good one for daylight digging opportunity, with weekend low tide times occurring before or just after sunset,” said Bryce Blumenthal, WDFW’s recreational razor clam manager. “Clam diggers have had mixed success with recent weather, but we expect improved conditions — and easier digging — as winter approaches spring.”
Not all coastal beaches are open for every dig, so diggers are encouraged to make sure their intended destination is open before heading out. No digging is allowed before noon during digs when low tide occurs in the afternoon or evening. Most successful digging occurs between one and two hours before the listed time of low tide.
The following digs during evening (p.m.) low tides will proceed as scheduled:
• Friday, 3:47 p.m.; -0.3 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks.
• Saturday, 4:39 p.m.; -0.8 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks.
• Sunday, 5:27 p.m.; -1.0 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis.
• Monday, 6:10 p.m.; -1.1 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis.
• Tuesday, 6:50 p.m.; -0.9 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks.
• Wednesday, Jan 15., 7:28 p.m.; -0.6 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks.
