AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Swim lesson survey for Port Angeles pool; second sprint boat race canceled

Hole-in-one reports

PORT ANGELES — Sprint boat racing at Extreme Sports Park in Port Angeles will have to wait until next summer.

Extreme Sports Park co-owner Kelie Morrison confirmed that the Sept. 12 race date has been postponed due to current pandemic conditions.

Morrison said any previously purchased tickets, tent canopy spots or event sponsorships would be honored at a future race.

“We will honor anything for future races,” Morrison said. “Anybody who pre-ordered anything just stay tuned for more information.”

Summer 2021 races have been tentatively set for July and September.

“We don’t have specific dates to announce yet, but we have already made some pretty firm commitments,” Morrison said. “There are so many events on the Peninsula that you have to kind of lock down your summer plans.”

The other sprint boat track in the state, Webb’s Slough in Whitman County, has pushed its race day back to Sept. 26.

Konopaski ace

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ Brady Konopaski notched his first hole-in-one earlier this month while playing Peninsula Golf Club.

Konopaski holed out with an 8-iron and a Titleist golf ball from 155 yards on the par-3 ninth hole on Aug. 7.

The shot was witnessed by Brett Moore of Port Angeles and Eric Lane.

Elliott hole-in-one

SEQUIM — Mike Elliott of Sequim recorded the first hole-in-one of his golf career at Cedars at Dungeness on Aug. 10.

Elliott posted his ace on the 114-yard par-3 11th hole using a pitching wedge and a Callaway Chrome Soft ball.

The shot was witnessed by John Nalley, Morris Fosse and Frank Schonians, all of Sequim.

Swim lesson survey

PORT ANGELES — William Shore Memorial Pool is asking parents and guardians to fill out a short survey about swim lessons during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 10-question survey asks if parents/guardians feel comfortable with their children taking swim lessons during the pandemic, if they feel physical distancing can be achieved and asks whether family lessons or private lessons are an option the pool should pursue.

It is available at tinyurl.com/PDN-SwimLessonSurvey.
