AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Storm King registration and state, Gold Cup BMX qualifiers

PORT ANGELES — The Lincoln Park BMX Park will be hosting Gold Cup and state qualifiers on Saturday and Sunday.

The Pacific Northwest Gold Cup championships will be held in SeaTac this year on Sept. 12 and the state championship finals will be Sept. 28 in Spokane.

Both the Saturday and Sunday races are “triple point” races that help riders qualifier for the Gold Cup and state races.

Pre-signups end at 8 p.m. Friday. In-person registration is from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday for the Gold Cup races and 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sunday for the state qualifier. People can go to www.lpbmx.presign.me to pre-sign.

Also, five Lincoln Park riders will be participating the BMX World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, from Monday to July 30.

Port Angeles’ Kylin Weitz will compete in the 12 girls and 12 girls cruiser categories. Teyah Elofson-Cross, also of Port Angeles, will compete in the 13 girls and 13-16 girls cruiser categories.

Elinor Christensen is one of three Kingston family members who will be in Copenhagen. They all compete at Lincoln Park as their home track. Elinor Christensen will compete in the 11 girls category, while Warren Christensen will compete in the 9 boys category.

Wyatt Christensen is currently the No. 1-ranked rider in the world and will be defending his title in the 13 boys category.

Storm King registration

PORT ANGELES — Registration for Storm King Soccer Club’s fall offerings is open through Sunday.

Players in the U6 and U7 age groups will participate in an academy-style format on Mondays and Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from Sept. 15 through Oct. 24.

All sessions will be held at Peninsula College.

Players in U8-U15 will play games on Saturdays from Sept. 6 through Nov. 1.

Fields around Port Angeles will open for practices Aug. 25 with practice dates and times set by coaches at the annual coaches meeting in mid-August. Coaches will contact players once practices are scheduled.

The registration fee is $65 per player for all age groups.

Volunteer coaches should email pasoccer@gmail.com for their registration code.

To register, or for more information, visit www.stormking soccer.com.

Soccer ref clinic

AGNEW — A new soccer referee field clinic will be held at the Agnew Fields at 10 a.m. Aug. 2.

Prior to signing up for this course, you must complete the online course at https://home.wareferees.org/home. Go to the website and click on “I want to be a referee” and follow the instructions.

The registration fee is $90.

If people are 18 or older, there is an additional $3.70 fee to cover a background check.

The in-person portion of the certification consists of four hours of field practice.

Beginning this month, referees under the age of 18 will get green badges. Referees 18 or older will get black badges. This is a United States Soccer Federation mandate to call attention to the age of the referees and hopefully reduce referee abuse of youth referees.

Those with questions can contact Paul Götz at 206-719-2935.

JeffCo fall youth soccer

PORT TOWNSEND — Early registration for Jefferson County Parks and Recreation’s fall coed soccer leagues provides a discount in fees.

Practices will begin in mid-August. League games will be played on Sundays starting at 1 p.m. at H.J. Carroll Park and Irondale Park beginning Sept. 7 and running through the end of October.

Age groups are pre-Kindergarten, first and second, third and fourth, and fifth through seventh.

Registration is $75 through Aug. 3 and $85 for late registration after Aug. 4. The fee includes a T-shirt, game equipment, field prep and maintenance, and referees for grades three and older.

Coaches are also needed.
