AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Steven Gray in Forks for basketball camps

FORKS — Former Chimacum, Gonzaga and European professional basketball player Steven Gray will lead separate camps for boys and girls on the West End.

The boys camps will meet at Forks High School on Saturday and Sunday with grades 4-7 attending from 10 a.m. to noon and grades 8-11 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The girls camps will meet at Forks High School on Monday and Tuesday with grades 4-7 attending from 10 a.m. to noon and grades 8-11 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The cost is $83 with fees included for both boys and girls camps.

Gray led Chimacum to a sixth-place finish at the Class 2A state tournament in 2005, scoring 50 points to set a school record during the tournament. He then played 125 games for Gonzaga, earning All-West Coast Conference honors.

He played his entire pro career in Europe, leading the French League in scoring in 2015 and the Croation League in 2018.

He also played in Greece, Bosnia, Latvia and Israel, wrapping his pro career in 2022.

Rivals football, cheer

CHIMACUM — The East Jefferson Rivals Youth Football program will hold its final registration event for football and cheer at HJ Carroll Park, 9884 state Highway 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

League officials need to receive a copy of the birth certificate for all new players/cheerleaders, while returning players are on file.

Proof of school enrollment and a current utility bill showing proof of residency also are required.

Grau holes out

SEQUIM — Sequim’s Kevin Grau recorded his fourth career hole-in-one while playing the fourth hole at The Cedars at Dungeness on July 12.

Grau used his TaylorMade p770 7-iron and a Titleist ProV1x golf ball to sink the shot from the Copper tees, 150 yards out.

His shot was witnessed by John Kaylen, Andy Borchers and Ron Grant.

Larkins records ace

SEQUIM — Sequim’s Terry Larkin collected her first hole-in-one while playing at The Cedars at Dungeness on July 15.

Larkins sank her shot on the fourth hole from 85 yards out, using her Big Bertha driver and a Titleist golf ball.

Her shot was witnessed by Jody Wilkins and Bob Larkins.

Elwell notches single

SEQUIM — Sequim’s James Elwell carded his first hole-in-one while playing the fourth hole from the silver tees on May 25 at the Cedars at Dungeness.

Elwell used his 6-iron and a Callaway golf ball to hole out from 120 yards away.

Family members Cody Elwell, Anne Elwell and Jack Elwell witnessed the shot.
