PORT ANGELES — The St. Patrick’s Day Run/Walk is back after a several-year hiatus due to COVID-19.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 18, on the Waterfront Trail in Port Angeles starting at the Red Lion Hotel.
The Red, Set, Go St. Patrick’s Day Run/Walk presented by Strait View Credit Union will be held in conjunction with the Olympic Medical Center Foundation’s Red, Set, Go luncheon, and will benefit the OMC Heart Center.
The out-and-back event will head east before turning around at 5K and 10K turnarounds. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and medal. Awards will be given to the top male and female runners and also to age group award winners. It will also feature a costume contest.
“We want this to be a fun, as well as a healthy event,” said Strait View Credit Union Vice President Lori Frederick.
Attendees at the Red, Set, Go luncheon on Feb. 24 will be implored to “Get Heart Smart” and to exercise, which the St. Patrick’s Day event will enable them to do.
The luncheon’s purpose is two-fold — it raises awareness about the critical issue of heart health for women on the Olympic Peninsula and is also the primary fundraising event for the OMC Heart Center.
Funds from the race and the luncheon will go towards the purchase of cardiac software for OMC’s new CT Scan, which the OMC Foundation also purchased. The software will enable OMC to conduct scans of the heart, which prior machines weren’t able to do.
Run/walk participants can register at www.tinyurl.com/ StPatrickRun. Registration is limited to 500 participants for the 1 mile, 5K, and 10K combined. It will close at 6 p.m. Friday, March 17.
Participants can sign up on-site the day of the race if space is still available.
