Martial arts group visits Port Angeles
PORT ANGELES — The Hodori “Little Tigers” South Korean national demonstration team of children ages 10 to 14 recently traveled to Port Angeles to perform a martial arts demonstration.
Hodori members dazzled the crowd with musical martial arts dances and motions and broke a huge pile of wooden boards with acrobatic spinning, twisting and jumping high kicks.
Area martial artists also presented at the demonstration.
Jessique Rodriques and Annabelle Norcross of Port Angeles’ White Crane Martial Arts were winners of the Forms Division for ages 10 and younger black belts and older junior black belts, respectively.
Norcross also won the black belt creative forms division and performed that form.
In the weapons forms, Leather Laudette won in the black belt division.
Three master level instructors, Sterling Chase of Colorado Springs, Colo. Duain Harris from Las Vegas and Todd Norcross from Poulsbo, were promoted to 7th degree black belt and became Grandmasters with the Jidokwan, what organizers said is the most successful school of full contact fighting in the history of taekwondo.
White Crane belt testing for black belt candidates had a board of judges that contained three of the worlds highest ranking black belts, 9th “dan” black belts Robert Nicholls of Port Angeles, Lim Dong-Kyun of South Korea and Scott Rophr of Thailand, along with the three newly minted Grandmasters and Karate Grandmaster Manuel Torres of White Crane.
Sports physicals set
PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Public Health Department is offering sports physicals for student athletes in advance of the fall sports season.
Appointments can be made at the school-based health centers at Port Townsend or Chimacum high schools.
Vaccinations also are available.
Appointments will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Port Townsend High School on Tuesday, Thursday, Aug. 16 and Tuesday, Aug. 21.
At Chimacum High School, appointments will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, Friday, Aug. 17 and Wednesday, Aug. 22.
Insurance can be billed or physicals can be performed for $45.
