Softball championship

PORT TOWNSEND — Justice League will play Arrow at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the first championship game of the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation softball tournament.

The game will be played at HJC Park. There would be a second championship game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, also at HJC Park, if Justice League wins tonight.

Arrow made it to the championship game by beating Breakers, Pourhouse and Justice League. Justice League beat Barflies, Sirens, then lost to Arrow, but beat Pourhouse in the consolation bracket to make it to the championship games.

Hauck leads in wins

PORT ANGELES — With one week left in the West Coast League season, some of the pitchers on the Port Angeles Lefties have chances to lead the league in wins and strikeouts.

Heading into the final week, pitcher Andrew Hauck is among six pitchers around the league tied for the most victories with five.

Hauck has had a solid season for the Lefties. He is 5-1 with a 3.82 ERA. He has struck out 33 batters in 40 innings and walked only eight. He has been used both as a starter and a reliever, making five starts and picking up two saves as a reliever.

Three other Lefties pitchers have a legitimate shot at leading the league in strikeouts if they can get into any more games this week.

Liam Paddack is second in the WCL with 42 strikeouts, tied for third behind Trevin Hope of Bellingham and Quincy Vassar of Wenatchee, who both have 45 strikeouts.

Lefties Jesh Pfeffer and Trey Maeker are both tied for fifth in the league in strikeouts with 38 each.

The pitching staff has been a bright spot for the 17-30 Lefties, ranking eighth out of the 16 teams in the WCL in ERA at 5.01.

Hitting-wise, Lefty Adam Paganelli is batting .357 in WCL play (30-for-84), which would put him in the top 10 in the league, but does not have enough at-bats as yet to qualify for the batting title.
