AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: SkyRidge hosts 17th anniversary golf tourney; volleyball skills sessions in planning stages and Peninsula adventure races canceled

SkyRidge anniversary tournament

SEQUIM — SkyRidge Golf Course will celebrate its 17th anniversary Saturday with a two-person modified Chapman format golf tournament.

The 18-hole SkyRidge Anniversary Tournament will open with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Registration is $80 per team and includes green fees, range balls, KP’s and long putt contests and lunch following play.

An optional honey pot is $30 per team.

In a modified Chapman format, each player hits a tee shot and then hits their partner’s ball for the second shot. Teams will then play alternate shot, using the better of the two second shots and continuing to alternate shots until the ball is holed out.

Team handicaps will be set at 50 percent of the low handicap player and 30 percent of the higher handicap partner.

For more information, call 360-683-3673.

Volleyball skills

PORT ANGELES — Small group volleyball clinics for Port Angeles High School students in grades nine through 12 are in the planning stages.

Roughriders head coach Jennifer Reynolds is looking at holding one-hour, skill-based sessions three days a week for small groups with the potential to open up more clinics as public health regulations allow.

Races dropped

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Adventure Trail Run or OAT Run and the Quilcene Gravel Unravel set for June 20 and 27, respectively, have been canceled, event organizer Peninsula Adventure Sports of Port Angeles announced.

Organizers remain hopeful that the Great Olympic Adventure Trail Run or GOAT Run on Sept. 11 and the Big Hurt, Port Angeles’ multi-sport endurance race on Sept. 26, will still occur.

“We are also making modifications to events, in particular Big Hurt, that will allow for increased distance and safety,” said Peninsula Adventure Sports’ Lorrie Mittmann. “We have updated our normal refund policy to one specific to covid-19 cancellation, just so racers know what will happen if things change after they sign up.”

Registration for the GOAT Run and the Big Hurt are available at www.peninsulaadventuresports.com.
