AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Seventh Klahhane gymnast qualifies for regionals

PASCO — A seventh Klahhane Xcel gymnast qualified for the regional Xcel gymnastics championship to be held April 19-20 in Boise, Idaho.

Xcel Gold gymnast Lainey DePiro qualified with a 36.7 all-around score at the Washington Xcel championships held this weekend in Pasco.

Six other Klahhane Xcel gymnasts were earlier announced as qualifying for regionals. They include Elyse Brown (Xcel Platinum), Scarlett Sullivan (Xcel Platinum), Mariah Traband (Xcel Platinum), Harper Hilliker (Xcel Platinum), Carley Mae Riggs (Xcel Gold) and Paytynn Lindley (Xcel Gold).

PSL spring season

PORT ANGELES — High Energy Metals, Strait Slice Pizza, Salazar Construction and Windermere Real Estate opened the Peninsula Soccer League’s spring season with victories Sunday.

Steve Lalonde, Dustin Walsh, Andrew Cooper and Nick Allen all scored, leading High Energy to a 4-2 win over Pantry & Latch. Ben Stanley and Mike Ingraham found the net for the Pantry club.

Strait Slice outscored Pura Vida 6-2, getting two goals from Solace McGruther and solo tallies from Kyle Henderson, Jimmy Quigley, Luke Strong-Cvetich and Taryn Asmus.

Salazar shut out Ediz Hook 6-0, getting hat tricks from Pablo Salazar and Edgar Acevez.

Windermere rolled over Los Primos 10-1, led by the scoring of Dru Clark, Rafa Flores and Jordyn Newman, who had two goals each.

In Sunday’s other match, Bandidos and Forks FC played to a 1-1 draw. Cedric Bailey scored for the Bandidos club and Hugo Sandoval Jr. found the goal for the fall league champion Forks FC.
