AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Sequim’s Wagner named athlete of the week at VIU

NANAIMO — Former Sequim High School and Peninsula College soccer star Hannah Wagner was named the Pacific Western Athletic Association women’s soccer athlete of the week earlier this month.

Wagner earned the honor after scoring two goals for Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, B.C., in her first two games of the year. Playing on the defensive backline, she also helped lead VIU to 2-0 and 5-0 shutout victories over Langara College of Vancouver, B.C.

Both of Wagner’s goals were headers off corner kicks.

Wagner was an all-Olympic League selection in soccer, basketball and golf for Sequim High School.She went on to play two years for Peninsula College from 2023 to 2024, becoming student body president in addition to her athletic accomplishments.

Golf tournament

PORT ANGELES — Friends with Beverages presents “Fore! The Kids” a four-person scramble tournament at Peninsula Golf Club to raise funds for Clallam County Community Outreach.

The tournament to benefit local youths in need this holiday season will be held rain or shine Nov. 22 with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. The cost is $100 a player and all ages are welcome.
