AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Sequim’s Madison Uranga will play college golf

Softball league forming in Port Angeles; Soccer league registration in Sequim

Uranga to golf for Oklahoma Panhandle State

SEQUIM — Sequim High School senior Madison Uranga has signed a letter of intent to golf collegiately at NAIA Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla.

The Aggies play in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Uranga earned All-Olympic League honors and competed at the Class 2A state tournament last season.

City rec softball

PORT ANGELES — Registration is open until April 19 for men’s and women’s softball leagues put on by the city of Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department.

The season begins in late April and will last into July with games held at Elks and Shane fields in Port Angeles.

Players ages 18 and older are eligible. Players without a team can call and be placed on a “free agent” list.

The cost is $900 per team.

Sequim soccer

SEQUIM — Sequim FC’s spring soccer season is open for registration with league options for players ages 16 and older.

Options include Sequim FC’s traditional coed competitive league with 11 players a side and over age 40 coed and women’s-only leagues.

Cost is $40 for the traditional coed league, and $30 for the over 40 and women’s leagues.

Registration is available at sequimfc.net through April 27.

Lions nips Elks 3-2

PORT ANGELES — Aidric McBride’s two-run, walk-off double lifted Lions to a 3-2 win over Elks in Cal Ripken baseball Tuesday.

Cole Beeman and Kason Albaugh combined to throw a one-hitter for Lions.

Elks received outstanding pitching from Joseph Ritchie, Reid Schmidt and Caleb Mullen.

Athlete’s wins opener

PORT ANGELES — Athlete’s Choice opened the 2019 Olympic Junior Babe Ruth baseball season with an 8-4 win over Local 155 in seven innings.

Aaron Edmiston, Ezra Townsend and Landyn Jones drove in two runs apiece to lead Athlete’s Choice at the plate. Edmiston finished 3 for 3 at the plate.

Matt Mangano led the Local offense going 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Local pitchers Naaman McGuffy, Matt Mangano and Kole Acker teamed up for a combined 10 strike outs.

Athlete’s Choice’s six pitchers allowed four runs on six hits.
