Junior tennis tourney set in Sequim

SEQUIM — The Sequim Open Juniors Tennis Tournament for boys and girls will be held at the Sequim High School tennis courts from Monday through Friday, July 24-28.

There is no entry fee.

To register, email masterdgt@aol.com and provide name, age and level of playing experience.

Entries will close at noon Friday, July 21.

T-shirts, snacks and water will be provided for the participants.

Tracksters qualify

SPOKANE — Port Angeles’ Eve Burke and Riley Pyeatt advanced to the U.S.A. Track and Field National Championships after qualifying at regionals last weekend.

Pyeatt finished third in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 1 minute, .18 seconds.

She also placed seventh in the 100 with another personal-best time of 12.99.

Burke was third in the high jump equaling her best mark of 4 feet, 9 inches, just nicking 4-11 with her foot on the way down.

She also placed seventh in the long jump with a new personal record of 15-3 and was 14th in the 100 in 13.30.

Burke also finished 14th in the 100m with a time of 13.30.

The meet was held in Spokane against individuals and clubs from Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Idaho.

The top five finishers in each event advance to the National Championships at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Kan. July 24-30.
