AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Sequim track to hold fundraiser

SEQUIM — The Sequim High School track and field team is doing a “Flapjack Fundraiser” at from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. May 6 at Applebee’s in Sequim.

The fundraiser will raise money to replace the team’s 17-year-old pole vault pit cover, travel expenses and equipment replacement such as discuses, shot puts and javelins.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from track and field team members, at the door on Sunday or at the Sequim High School office. The breakfast includes pancakes, syrup, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, milk, juice and coffee.

Olympic Junior Babe Ruth

PORT ANGELES — Local 155 beat Athletes Choice on Sunday 12-7 in a game originally started on April 11 that was delayed by rain.

The game resumed Sunday in the bottom of the third inning with Local leading 6-0 due to a strong pitching performance by Eli Cyr, a two-run double from Naaman McGuffey and a two-run single by Kole Acker.

On Sunday, Cyr took to the mound again throwing 1 2/3 innings, giving way to Mason Nickovich, then Chastain Richardson to close out the game. The Local boys tossed 11 strikeouts, giving up four hits over seven innings.

At the plate for Local, Kaleb Ripley was 3 for 3 with four RBIs and a run scored, Matt Magano was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Mason Nickovich had a two-run base hit and also picking up hits for Local were Myles Bowechop and Gabe Myers.

For Athletes Choice, Hunter Robinson had a double and a run scored, Bryson Morris singled and scored a run, Aaron Edminston singled with two RBI and Jeremiah Woods singled with an RBI.
