AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Sequim High School baseball hosting youth clinic March 8

SEQUIM — A youth baseball clinic for players in grades 3-8 hosted by the Sequim High School baseball team is planned for March 8.

The clinic will be held at the school’s varsity baseball field from 9 a.m. to noon.

High school players will provide instruction on hitting, fielding and throwing techniques to help players prepare for baseball season.

Cost for the clinic is $25. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Parents are welcome to stay and watch, or players can be dropped off and picked up.

All players will receive a Sequim baseball hat, snacks and water.

All-Nisqually wrestlers

PORT TOWNSEND —East Jefferson grapplers earned honors on the Nisqually League’s all-league wrestling team.

First-team honorees on the girls wrestling team were Gracee Liske, Savvy Grimm and Lenore Geelan, while Lavender Douglas and Grace Ayers were named to the second team.

Manaseh Lanphear Ramirez, Grady White and Rylan Kruse of the boys team all were named to the first team.

Silas Klonts was a second-team choice.

Liske finished second in the 125-pound bracket last week at Mat Classic, the state wrestling championships.

White finished sixth at 157 pounds at state.

Klontz, Kruse, Ramirez and Grimm all wrestled at state.

Youth flag football

PORT ANGELES — Youth Athletes For Christ will host a six-week six-on-six flag football league for players in grades 1-11 this spring.

Coaches include Port Angeles’ Jason Hawes, Terry Wopperer, Ryan DeTorres, Joseph Ritchie, Brayden Wopperer and Tanner Flores.

The league will run Saturdays from April 5 through May 10 with all games on the turf at the Monroe Playfield, 102 Monroe Road.

Grades 1-3 will practice at 9:15 a.m. and play at 10 a.m.; grades 4-7 will practice at 11:15 a.m. and play at noon, and grades 8-11 will practice at 1:15 p.m. and play at 2 p.m.

The cost is $150 before March 8, $175 after that date.

Girls basketball clinics

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County Parks and Recreation will offer girls basketball clinics for players in grades 3-5 and 6-8 at Blue Heron Middle School, 3939 San Juan Ave., on March 22.

Players in grades 3-5 will attend from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., while older players will participate from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Players should bring their own snacks and a water bottle.

The registration fee is $50 and the deadline to sign up is March 14.

Coed youth soccer

PORT TOWNSEND — Registration is open through March 21 for Jefferson County Parks and Recreation’s spring coed youth soccer season for children in pre-Kindergarten through seventh grade.

Fees are $65 and include a T-shirt.

Practices will start April 7 and the league will wrap in mid-June.

Games and practices will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at HJ Carroll Park in Chimacum or Memorial Field in Port Townsend.

A coaches’ meeting for all levels will be held at the Port Townsend Rec Center, 620 Tyler St., at 5:30 p.m. April 2.
