OLYMPIA — Marine Area 9, Admiralty Inlet, will close today for Chinook retention but will open daily for hatchery coho and pink salmon.
The changes are effective from today to Monday. Marine Area 9 include the Admiralty Inlet from Point Wilson/Port Townsend south to Port Gamble in the west and Edmonds in the east.
The daily limit is two salmon and there is no minimum size. All Chinook, chum and wild coho must be released.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is making the changes because catch estimates for the Marine Area 9 summer Chinook salmon fishery indicate that through July 22, 84 percent of the harvest quota (3,633 of 4,300) has been reached. This reduction is necessary to stay within management guidelines and to allow for early opening of the coho and pink salmon-directed fishery, originally scheduled for Tuesday.
MS ride in Sequim
SEQUIM — The Sequim Multiple Sclerosis Support Group will be welcoming the Bike the US for MS Tour in Sequim from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug. 8 at Carrie Blake Park.
There will be more than 30 bicyclists riding on this tour around the Olympic Peninsula.
The Bike the US for MS mission is to raise awareness in communities across America and to connect with people with MS. The group’s bicycle rides are raising funds to help those affected by multiple sclerosis and for funding for more research for a cure.
The Sequim MS support group meets every month on the third Wednesday from 3 p.m. to p.m. at the KSQM Community Room in Sequim. Meetings are open to anyone who is living with MS, as well as caregivers, friends, and family members who are the support network for someone with MS.
