OPRA competes

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association youth rowers recently competed at the American Lake Fall Classic Regatta, enjoying beautiful rowing weather and medaling in six of 10 5-kilometer races.

Nathan Mishler won the the Men’s Junior Singles with a time of 23 minutes, 15.3 seconds.

Mishler was joined by Zach Gavin, Tyler Turner and Daniel Weaver in the Men’s Junior Varsity 4X (fourth in 20:11.7).

The Men’s Junior JV 4X of Harrison Fulton, Turner, Vince Pavlak and Jack Feingold placed third in 23:48.

The Men’s Junior Varsity 2X of Gavin and Weaver ended up sixth (23:30.7), while the Junior JV2X of Brighton Nicholson and Feingold were sixth (26:26.5).

Nicholson, ZiGui Harper-Smith, ZiTou Harper-Smith and Liam Getzin wound up third in the Men’s Junior Novice 4+ (27:32.5).

In the Men’s Open 1X race, Calum Swinford was runner-up in 27:08.9.

In women’s races, Emily Sirguy, Angelica Kennedy, Emily Bundy and Ella Ventura finished second in the Women’s Junior Varsity 4X (23:23.2).

Lisa Martin and Maria England combined for a fourth-place finish in the Women’s Jr. 2X (25.13.5).

Sirguy and Kennedy teamed in the Women’s Junior JV 2X to place third (26:21) and Shannon Callahan and Ventura were fourth (30:28.5).

The Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association is holding a Save our Boathouse Erg-A-Thon on Saturday at the Naval Elks Lodge, 131 E. First St., at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Rowers are seeking sponsors for the event.

Blue and Gold dinner

FORKS — The Forks Spartans boys and girls basketball teams will hold their Spartan Blue and Gold Scrimmage and Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser Friday, Nov. 16.

The spaghetti dinner will be held in the foyer outside the gymnaisium at 5:30 p.m.

The girls game will be played at 6 p.m., with the boys following at 7 p.m.

Tickets are a $10 donation and are available from any Spartan basketball player.

Battle at SkyRidge

SEQUIM — SkyRidge Golf Course will hold its first-ever Battle at the Ridge, a two-day, two-person best ball tournament, this Saturday and Sunday.

Start times are 9:30 a.m. each day.

Players should make up their own teams and groups.

Green fees are $100 per person, with three rounds of golf, including a practice round on Friday, and daily KPs and long putt contests included.

A barbecue hamburger lunch will be served Saturday and a taco bar will follow Sunday’s play.

Annual members and employees will receive a discount.

An optional honey pot is $20 and will be paid Sunday based on a two-day, total score all-net payout.

The tournament will be played from the green tees.

Food drive bike ride

PORT ANGELES — The 2018 Port Angeles edition of Cranksgiving, a bike ride benefit for the Port Angeles Food Bank, will be held Saturday, Nov. 17.

Part bike ride, part scavenger hunt, riders can check in at the Port Angeles Farmers Market at the Gateway Center anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Attendees should bring a bike, helmet, a backpack or bike trailer, a lock and between $15 and $20 to buy food.

Organizers will provide instructions, a map of stores and a list of the food bank’s most-needed items. Riders can bike to the shops, buy the items and return to the Farmers Market to weigh the goods.

Prizes will be awarded for the most food collected, first to finish and more at noon back at the Port Angeles Farmers Market.

All food collected will be given to the Port Angeles Food Bank. Monetary donations also are welcome.
