AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Roughriders selling tickets to hoop scrimmage

Tickets on sale for Roughriders’ scrimmage

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys basketball team will gear up for the season with a Green and White scrimmage game in the school gym at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26.

“This will be a great chance for the community to see the varsity basketball team for the first time,” head coach Kasey Ulin said.

“We will have an intrasquad scrimmage and we will have games and prize giveaways during halftime.”

Tickets are $5 apiece and available in advance from Roughriders’ basketball players and coaches, or at the door.

“We are looking forward to having the community come and see all the hard work the players have been putting in,” Ulin said.

Bays praised by UW

SEATTLE — Student-athletes from Clallam Bay, Neah Bay and Montesano will be honored during a University of Washington women’s basketball game in January by the college and Forks Radio1490 AM.

The Clallam Bay Bruins varsity basketball team has been invited to the Washington vs. UCLA game on Sunday, Jan. 8 and will be seated In VIP seats between the Huskies team bench and the school band.

Clallam Bay went 17-4 last season and return most of their players for the 2016-17 season. The team has a high team grade-point average and many of the athletes are also members of the school’s state-caliber track and field and volleyball teams.

Also invited to the game are sixth-grade girls basketball teams from Neah Bay and Montesano.

The two teams will scrimmage at halftime of the game.

Montesano is coached by former Washington Huskies basketball player Kellie Dalan who played for the Huskies from 1999-2003 and played on an Elite 8 team.

The student athletes from these schools were selected for this event because of the great reputations these school districts have for producing outstanding student-athletes and teams.
