Roughriders hosting girls hoops clinic
PORT ANGELES — A basketball clinic for girls entering grades six through nine will be held next month at Port Angeles High School.
The clinic will be led by Port Angeles High School girls basketball coaches and players.
It will run from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday and Friday, June 22-23.
The cost is $40 and is payable at the door on June 22.

Rugby team returns
SEQUIM — The USA Women’s Rugby Team will return to Sequim for three practice sessions next week to prep for an upcoming tournament in Victoria, B.C.
The squad previously trained in Sequim in 2016 before finishing fifth at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
“We enjoyed the experience and wanted to return,” said coach Richie Walker.
The Eagles will train at the Albert Haller Playfields at Carrie Blake Park, 500 N. Blake Ave., at noon Tuesday and Thursday, May 25 and 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Practices are open to the public.
The team will face England at the Canada Sevens Tournament at Westhills Stadium near Victoria at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27.
Grant heads to NCAAs
MONMOUTH, Ore. — Athletes from Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Sequim boosted Western Washington University at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Track and Field Outdoor Championships last weekend.
Port Townsend’s Brittany Grant won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and will race at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track &Field Championships May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla.
This will be the second time Grant has competed at the national championships, placing 20th in last year’s steeplechase and 21st in the 5,000-meter run.
Sequim’s Jasmine McMullin won the triple jump and was third in the long jump at the conference meet.
Alex Barry of Sequim won the men’s javelin title. His distance met the qualification standard for the national championships but other athletes had better marks. The 2015 Sequim grad did improve his personal record to 204-feet, 5-inches this season.
Sequim’s Waverly Shreffler ran the women’s 800 meter but did not make the finals.
Port Angeles’ Peter Butler placed seventh in the 10,000-meter run.
The Viking men placed second at the conference meet, while the Western women finished fifth.
