PA boys go 4-1 at Roughrider Classic tourney

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School boys basketball team went 4-1 and finished second at the annual Roughrider Classic held this weekend at the high school.

Seventeen teams from across the state played in this year’s tournament. The Roughriders went 3-0 in pool play, then won their semifinal game 62-35 over Olympic. Burlington-Edison beat Port Angeles 63-48 in the championship game.

Roughriders’ coach Kasey Ulin said Burlington-Edison is predicted to be a favorite to contend for the 2A state championship. The Riders were up by seven points after the first quarter and held a four-point lead at the half, but Ulin said a big third quarter by Burlington-Edison was too much to overcome.

In pool play, the Roughriders beat Bremerton 56-42, North Mason 62-40 and Kingston 66-32.
