PC men knock off Shoreline in close contest
SHORELINE — The Peninsula College men’s basketball team hung on and held off Shoreline 70-69 in an NWAC North Division contest Wednesday night.
After trailing 34-32 at halftime, the Pirates held a 70-65 lead on a Cameron Burton layup with 3:53 to play.
Peninsula then withstood three turnovers, four missed shots from the floor and a missed free throw over the final three minutes of play, to come out on top and sweep the season series with the Dolphins.
The Pirates defense held tight, forcing five missed shots by Shoreline and getting key blocked shots from Kaelin Crane and Marky Adams down the stretch.
Burton led Peninsula with 19 points, while Colby Jackson added 18 and Eli’sha Sheppard had 10 off the bench.
The Pirates hit 10 of 18 on 3-point shots and 12 of 17 from the free-throw line compared to Shoreline’s totals of 2 of 13 on 3s and 3 of 4 on free throws.
There was no women’s game Wednesday as the Dolphins are not fielding a team this season.
Peninsula (5-3, 15-8) is now in a second-place tie with Bellevue (5-3, 16-7) in the NWAC North. The Pirates visit first-place Everett (7-1, 19-4) on Saturday.
The Peninsula women (2-4, 4-14) also visit first-place Everett (6-1, 17-4) on Saturday.

WIAA honoree
RENTON — Crescent junior Grace Baillargeon is a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Athlete of the Week winner for Jan. 28-Feb. 4.
Baillargeon scored 17 points along with 12 rebounds and five steals in a 42-13 win over the Chief Kitsap Academy Bears on Jan. 31.
