AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: River fishing classes in Sequim; summer hoops camp in Port Angeles

River fishing classes slated in Sequim

SEQUIM — Brian’s Sporting Goods in Sequim will be holding two river fishing classes in the next two weeks for people looking to learn more about freshwater fishing on the Olympic Peninsula.

The classes will be ehld from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday and on June 19 at Brian’s Sporting Goods at 609 Washington Street, No. 21, Sequim, WA 98382. The cost is $40 for both classes.

“We take in rod, reels, lines, everything” said Brian Menkal of Brian’s Sporting Goods.

Summer hoops camp

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School boys’ basketball team is putting on its annual summer camp from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 23-25 at Stevens Middle School.

The camp is for kids in third- through eighth-grades and the cost is $40 a camper. The camp will be run by current Roughrider coaches and players.

You can register on July 23 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. before the start of camp or by calling head boys basketball coach Kasey Ulin at 360-640-1845.

12U Major softball

PORT ANGELES — Boulevard had a pair of wins last week, beating Port Angeles Powers 18-5. Cheyenne Zimmer pitched three innings and had eight strikeouts. Jada Woods went 3 for 3 for Boulevard. PA Powers’ Caitlin Humphries hit a three-run HR off of Zimmer in the third.

Boulevard also won over Paint & Carpet Barn 17-7. Zimmer pitched three innings with six strikeouts. She also went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. Jocy Kazlauskas went 3 for 3, with a home run and five RBIs. Lynzee Reid went 2 for 3, with two runs scored and Ciara Cargo went 2 for 2 with a home run and a triple, with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Olympic Junior Babe Ruth

Westport beat First Federal 8-3 Wednesday in the team’s first playoff game. Pitcher Ty Bradow surrendered three runs on six hits over six innings, striking out seven and walking one. Damon Gunderson started for First Federal, going four innings and allowing six runs on six hits and striking out two.

Landon Seibel had three hits and Beckett Jarnagin had two for Westport, which had 10 hits. Jake Felton went three for three at the plate. Westport did not commit a single error in the game.
