AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Registration open for youth softball, baseball

PORT ANGELES — Registration for North Olympic Baseball and Softball’s upcoming spring season is underway at www.nobas.org.

The league offers T-Ball, Minor and Major Baseball and Minor and Major Softball offerings.

Registration for Major baseball and softball closes March 5.

T-Ball, Minor baseball and softball registration will remain open after spring break.

Arctic Open in PT

PORT TOWNSEND — Registration is underway for the 36th annual Arctic Open, a 36-hole golf tournament played no matter the weather conditions at Port Townsend Golf Club Feb. 19-20.

The two-person team event features 18 holes of best ball format and 18 holes of scramble play with a 10 a.m. shotgun start each day.

Entry fees are $200 per team and include a practice round on Feb. 18, KP prizes, hole-in-one prizes and more.

Awards follow the Feb. 20 round.

The event is sponsored by Crown Distributing.

YMCA lifeguard training

PORT TOWNSEND — The Olympic Peninsula YMCA’s Mountain View Pool will host lifeguard certification courses in March and April.

Class participants must be age 16 by the final day of class.

March’s training will run from March 7-10 with a required swim test planned for Feb. 26.

Registration is $75. The Jefferson Aquatics Coalition will cover this class fee on request.

Oak Bay needs host

PORT HADLOCK — A camp host for Oak Bay County Park is sought by Jefferson County Parks and Recreation.

Caretaker hosts live on site from April 1 through Oct. 31 and provide 13 hours of monitoring and light maintenance per week.

A campsite is provided for the camp host with power, trash service and water.

Steelhead meeting

OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced the first meeting of its 12-member Ad-hoc Coastal Steelhead Advisory Group, which will help inform the development of a long-term management strategy for coastal steelhead as required by the Washington Legislature in the 2021-23 budget.

The proviso will outline WDFW’s approach to managing steelhead fisheries for each river system of Grays Harbor, Willapa Bay, and coastal Olympic Peninsula.

The virtual advisory group meeting, scheduled for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17
