AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Registration open for Rhody Run Redux

PORT TOWNSEND — Registration for the Jefferson Healthcare 5K/10K Rhody Run Redux 2022 to be held on May 22 is open.

The revamped race will start and finish at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds on Landes Street in Port Townsend.

The registration fee is $45 per participant and includes a coveted “Rhody Run shirt” produced by The Sign Station. Kids younger than 5 are free and will receive a complimentary T-shirt and bib at packet pickup. Teams or businesses with 10 or more racers are eligible for a discount by emailing ptrhodyrun@gmail.com. To date, 10-plus teams include employees from participants from Silver Striders 50+ running magazine, Jefferson County PUD and Jefferson Healthcare.

Organizers and local businesses are excited for this community tradition to start again after a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizers give special thanks to Thunderbull and the Production Alliance for their assistance with the course setup, Quilcene Oyster Run for helping as course marshals, and the Port Townsend Kiwanis Club for sponsoring the Mile 4 water and aid station.

The Port Townsend Food Co-op, Elevated Ice Cream and Fairwinds Winery are supporting racers with free or discounted food or beverages. Other vendors, food trucks and community partners interested in participating in the event festivities should contact ptrhodyrun@gmail.com.

The Jefferson Healthcare Rhody Run Redux is organized and produced by the Port Townsend Marathon Association, a charitable non-profit organization with the mission to foster and encourage runners of all ages, both in the school system and in the community at large. Nearly all the work that goes into making this race happen is done by volunteers.

Proceeds from the Jefferson Healthcare Rhody Run Redux are returned to the community in the form of funding support for school sports programs and youth-oriented non-profit organizations. This year’s recipients include Jumping Mouse Children’s Center, The Benji Project, Quilcene/Brinnon Dollars for Scholars and East Jefferson Rivals Athletics.

Participants can register now at www.rhodyrun.com.
