Registration open for Sequim Little League
SEQUIM — Sequim Little League is registering players for the 2018 season, with teams and divisions for youths aged 5-15.
Registration is open through March 1. Skills will be assessed Feb. 25 and March 10 for baseball and softball Minor divisions and up at the Sequim Little League Fields (Dr. James Standard Park, 136 W. Silberhorn Road).
Minor division boys are from 10 a.m. to noon, and Major boys division players from noon to 2 p.m. All softball players drop in from noon to 1 p.m. The draft and practice season begin shortly after.
Registration can be done online at www.sequimlittleleague.com or in person at the Feb. 25 skills assessment at the Little League fields.
Opening day will be noon Saturday, April 14, with games following a player parade and ceremony.
Those interested in providing a sponsorship or a scholarship for a family in need can do so through the website or contact Janet Gray at jgray@janetgrayinteriors.com.
The league is also seeking volunteers interested in helping with regular field maintenance from March through June, a non-profit looking to grow their revenue and help with concession stand operations, and anyone looking to coach or to be an umpire this season.
Wilder baseball tryouts
PORT ANGELES — Wilder Baseball will hold tryouts for its AA (age 17 and younger) and AAA (19 and younger) summer ball teams Sunday, Feb. 18.
The tryouts will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Peninsula College and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at a hitting facility in Port Angeles (directions will be provided at the morning session).
The two teams will compete in Washington American Legion AA and AAA leagues and will play in various tournaments throughout the summer.
OPRA competes
SEATTLE — Seventeen adult and junior Olympic Peninsula Rowers Association members competed at The Northwest Indoor Rowing Championships (Ergomania) held in Seattle last weekend.
OPRA athletes raced in seven different 500-meter and 2-kilometer events and took home a total of eight medals.
Master rower Suzy Narbutovskih won her age group, while first-time racer Tim Saskowski was fourth out of eight competitors.
OPRA Junior rowers dominated the Youth 500 with Zach Gavin winning the event and Harrison Fulton coming in second. Jack Feingold and Vince Pavlak attained personal records in the event.
The Junior Girls swept the event with Lisa Martin, Ella Ventura and Sophia Groves placing first through third, respectively. Shannon Callahan did well as a first-time competitor in this event.
Kristinna Kennedy won the Women’s Open 500.
Calum Swinford Placed 3rd in the Men’s 500, with Scott Kennedy and Aiden Feingold besting their previous times in that event.
OPRA varsity rowers proved to be very strong contenders. Both Maria England and Tyler Turner posted competitive times in their races.
Nathan Mishler finished fourth in a field of 62 entrants in the Varsity Boys event, finishing with a 2-kilometer time of 6:31.
Ergomania kicks off the rowing season here in the Pacific Northwest with the spring season just around the corner.
First pitch banquet
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Roughriders baseball team will kick off the 2018 season with a First Pitch Banquet Auction fundraiser Saturday, March 10.
It will be held at the Chesnut Cottage Restaurant, 929 E. Front St., at 6:30 p.m.
The evening will include a chance to meet the Riders, a spaghetti dinner, raffle giveaways and a chance to bid on silent auction items.
The price is $20 per person with all proceeds support the Port Angeles High School baseball program.

Soccer registration
PORT ANGELES — Registration for the Peninsula Soccer Academy is underway at www.paysc.com.
The spring soccer program is presented by Port Angeles Youth Soccer Club and Peninsula College.
It is designed for players interested in enhancing their soccer skills and knowledge in a non-competitive environment.
Coaching is conducted by Peninsula College soccer coaches and players.
Sessions for U6 and U7 players will be held from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday from April 17 through May 22.
The cost is $45 for U6 and U7 players.
Practices for U8-U11 athletes will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from April 9 through May 31.
And U12-U17 players will train from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 9 through May 31.
The cost is $70 for U8 through U17 players.
All sessions will be held at Peninsula College.
