Local official honored
YAKIMA — Paul Parker of the North Olympic Basketball Officials Association was honored with the Meritorious Service Award at this year’s Washington Officials Association conference.
Parker was honored for 15 years of service to high school basketball.
He is a common fixture at North Olympic Peninsula high school basketball games and has been selected to officiate state tournament contests.
Youth hoops registration
PORT TOWNSEND — Junior hoops basketball registration with Jefferson County Parks and Recreation is underway.
The youth basketball program is open to children in Port Townsend, Port Hadlock, Chimacum, Quilcene and Brinnon.
Divisions include Pre-K and Kinder (coed) ($55-includes custom T-shirt); first and second grade ($60-includes custom T-shirt); and third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade ($80-includes a numbered, reversible jersey).
Those in grades three through six with jerseys from last season can deduct $20 from the registration fee.
The deadline to register is Nov. 1. Those who register after Nov. 1 will be placed on a wait list and incur a $10 late fee.
Volunteer coaches are also sought.

Roller derby bout
SEQUIM — Port Scandalous Roller Derby hosts a bout against the JBLM Bettie Brigade at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for military/senior citizens/youth ages 7-12, and age 6 and younger are free.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The event features a beer garden for ages 21 and older with ID, a raffle and after-bout party.
