AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Quilcene’s Budnek voted SeaTac League football MVP; Rangers’ spikers honored

Quilcene’s Budnek voted Sea-Tac MVP

QUILCENE — Quilcene junior Zach Budnek has been picked as the Class 1B SeaTac League Football MVP in voting conducted by league coaches.

Budnek is a tight end/lineman on offense, a noseguard on the defensive line, long snapper and placekicker for the Rangers.

He is an outstanding run blocker, opening holes for his younger brother Bishop, who led the SeaTac League in rushing.

Zach Budnek also caught four touchdown passes and four 2-point conversion attempts as a tight end.

He’s also led the Rangers in tackles and sacks as a noseguard the last two seasons.

Budnek was joined on the all-league first team by Quilcene’s senior quarterback Holdem Elkins, offensive lineman Kristian Mack, junior linebacker Chase Newman and Bishop Budnek, a sophomore defensive back.

Bishop Budnek also was a second-team pick at running back along with his brother Deakon, a freshman selection along the offensive line. Senior Max Redmon also made the second team as an offensive lineman.

All-League spikers

QUILCENE — Quilcene volleyball players were named to the Class 1B SeaTac League All-League team in voting by league coaches.

Senior outside hitter Madison Coffey was a first-team all-league selection for the Rangers.

Sophomore middle blocker Bridget Hitt earned second-team honors and junior outside hitter Marissa Kieffer was a third-team pick.
