Quilcene still alive at state tournament

YAKIMA — Quilcene is still in contention to place at the Class 1B state volleyball tournament after dispatching Wilson Creek in a three-set sweep 25-19, 25-12, 25-13 before falling to Odessa 25-19, 27-25, 25-15 in a quarterfinal match Thursday at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

The Rangers (19-2) can still finish as high as fifth if they can win two matches today.

Quilcene has placed in the top eight at state for four consecutive seasons, its highest finish, fourth, came last season.

Hoops tryouts set

SEQUIM — Sequim Youth Basketball hosts registration for the upcoming basketball season for boys and girls in grades K-4, with registration set for Saturday, at Sequim Middle School, 301 W. Hendrickson Road. Registration for kindergarten players is $5 per player and is 9 to 10:30 a.m. Registration for players in grades 3-4 is $75 each and runs 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Registrants are asked to wear athletic shoes and bring a basketball, water bottle and signed Sequim Youth Basketball form; get forms at www.sequimyouthbasketball.com or on-site.

Thanksgiving event

SEQUIM — SportsFit Training Center, 1102 E. Washington St., is hosting a Thanksgiving Day workout to help raise food for the Sequim Food Bank, starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 23.

All are welcome to the family friendly workout for all fitness levels. Admission is two non-perishable food items per person. DJ O.B.1 helps lead the workout.

Turkey Trot slated

PORT ANGELES — Registration is underway for the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K and 10K races.

The events will begin at the Morse Creek Trailhead at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 23.

Fees are $20 for single entries for the 5K and $25 for the 10K and $40 for families up to six people until Nov. 21.

Late registration adds $5 to each fee and ends at 6 p.m. Nov. 22.

Day of registration also is available.
