AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Port Townsend wrestlers fourth at Return of the Seahawk

PT wrestlers 4th at Chief Sealth meet

SEATTLE — The Port Townsend boys had six varsity and junior varsity wrestlers place at the Return of the Seahawk Tournament this weekend as the Redhawks finished fourth out of 27 teams at the Chief Sealth High School meet.

Kyle Caldwell — from Chimacum but he wrestles for the combined Port Townsend-Chimacum wrestling squad — placed second at the 195-pound weight division, Odin Smith (160 pounds), Ian Linn-Glasgow (152 pounds) and Logan Massie (145 pounds) all finished third.

The Redhawks had 95.5 team points. Stanwood won the meet with 165 points.

At the junior varsity level, Port Townsend’s Sam Lampert finished third at 138 pounds, while Lars Wakefield also placed third at 220.

“Our four placing varsity wrestlers looked good. We still have a few things to work on and get better conditioned,” said coach Steve Grimm.

Port Townsend took 12 wrestlers to the meet. The Redhawks have 20 boys and four girls wrestling this year.

The Redhawks next host a three-team meet with North Mason and North Kitsap at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Sequim Little League

SEQUIM — Registration for the 2020 season is officially open for Sequim Little League.

The league is shooting to have an intermediate baseball team this year for boys aged 12 to 13.

In-person registration and player assessments for boys and girls ages 9 and older well be held on Jan. 11 and Feb. 2, with times and locations announced soon.

Opening day for the season is March 21 for baseball and softball.
