Youth wrestling program begins Nov. 9 in PA

PORT ANGELES — Registration and first practice for the Port Angeles Wrestling Club will be held at the Port Angeles High School wrestling room in the school gym Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The club is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Kindergarten through third grade wrestlers will practice from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Fourth through eighth grade participants will work out from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Practices will be held twice a week through mid-February.

The program fee is $75 per wrestler, with a discount for families with three or more wrestlers.

Each wrestler will receive a club T-shirt and a USA Wrestling card.

PT academic champs

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend girls swim team has earned the WIAA’s Class 1A Academic State Championship after posting a 3.508 grade point average.

The team also includes athletes from Chimacum High School.

Team members will be honored at the Class 1A State Swim and Dive Championship at the King County Aquatic Center on Saturday, Nov. 12.

WIAA scholarship

RENTON — Applications are being accepted through April 1 for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Smart Choices Scholarship Program.

This annual program recognizes one male and one female graduating senior from among the WIAA member high schools for excellence in athletics, activities, academics, leadership and community service throughout his and her high school career.

Smart Choices winners receive a $5,000 scholarship.

An additional four male and four female finalists receive $1,000 scholarships.
