AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Port Angeles youth baseball and softball registration opens Monday online

Register for PA youth baseball, softball leagues

PORT ANGELES — Online registration opens Monday for North Olympic Baseball and Softball, Port Angeles’ youth baseball and softball program.

Returning players or siblings of returning players, or siblings of past players just need to log back into the family account and register for this season.

Any new players to our program will need to create an account prior to registering at www.nobas.website.siplay.com.

There will be two in-person registration times at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 19.

Help will be provided for people with questions or needing assistance registering online.

North Olympic Baseball and Softball is affiliated with Babe Ruth softball and Cal Ripken baseball. The league fields teams for boys ages 4 to 12 and girls 4 to 16.

Boys’ ages for the upcoming season are determined by the age the player will be on April 30 and girls’ ages are determined by their age as of Dec. 31, 2019.

Players will need to upload a copy of their birth certificate or a valid passport to the league website in order to be eligible to participate.

The cost is $35 for T-ball and $50 for all levels of baseball and softball per player with a maximum family amount of $120.

Skills testing/clinic

Skills testing for baseball players ages 8 to 12 and softball players ages 8 to 16 who have not previously played on a majors team will be held at the Lincoln Park fields on March 2 and March 9.

Check the website for times for each age.

A baseball and softball skills clinic will be held at Lincoln Park from 4:30 p.m. to dark March 4-6.

PA Rams earn victory

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Rams rallied in the second half to earn an 88-77 win over the Handle It Prep Academy Panthers in a semipro basketball game at Peninsula College.

Rams head coach Gerrad Brooks said the team opened up a six-point lead to enter the fourth quarter and never looked back.

Nick Camporini led the way for Port Angeles with 26 points. Abraham Venske added 24 and Michael Janis notched 18 for the Rams.

“First half [Handle It Prep] controlled the tempo with their outside shooting and the second half it was our defense and offensive adjustments that ultimately pulled it out for us,” Brooks said.
