AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Port Angeles Wrestling Club holds sign-ups

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Wrestling Club will hold a second round of sign-ups from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Old IBC building at 112 N. Lincoln St., second floor, in Port Angeles.

The club is open to all boys and girls from kindergarten up to the eighth grade. Practices are twice a week and start at 6 p.m. Nov. 3 and will run to Feb. 16, 2023. The advanced/competitive group will practice an extra day.

Practices will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, with the advanced group also practicing on 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The cost is $80 per wrestler and includes a PAWC T-shirt and USA Wrestling card. There is a discount available if a family has three or more participants. Scholarships are also available.

Peninsula Basketball League results

PORT ANGELES — 7 Cedars Casino improved to 2-0 Monday night in Peninsula Basketball League play with a 68-44 win over Anytime Fitness.

Kasey Ulin led the Cedars men with 17 points, while Gabe Long and Jim Halberg each chipped in with 14. Jayson Brocklesby poured in 21 and Shawn O’Mera had 13 for Anytime Fitness, which slipped to 1-1.

In Monday’s other game, Bayview Flooring improved to 1-1 with a 78-43 romp over Adam Tree Service. Cody Holding and Derek Schumacher each scored 19 to lead Bayview. Ace Sech had 14 and Josh King eight for the 0-2 Quilcene men.

Discovery Bay Women’s Golf

DISCOVERY BAY — Eleven members of the Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club played Bingo Bango Bongo last week.

Points were awarded for first on the green, closest to the pin, and any one-putt made.

Jane Guiltinan won with 22 points, Barb Aldrich and Wanda Synnestvedt tied for second with 21 points and Cindy Breed came in third with 20 points. Jane Peoples and Sherrilyn Ulland tied for the weekly low putts contest.

The end of the season will take place Thursday with a nine hole team scramble. Mulligans may be bought for $5 each with proceeds going to the annual scholarship fund for a Chimacum student. Following play, club members will gather for a luncheon and awarding of season prizes. Weather permitting, some of the members will continue to gather on Thursdays for non-season golf, so women are welcome to come out and meet club members in preparation for possibly joining the club for the 2023 season.

Forks football cancels Thursday game

FORKS — The Forks Spartans canceled their final regular-season game Thursday against Napavine. The game was set to be played at Spartan Stadium.

Forks forfeited its game against Pe Ell-Willapa Valley last week. In a statement texted to parents by the school district, “The district has preliminary information regarding an incident on Oct. 8 on a football event which involves a substantial number of players. Due to this we are canceling tonight’s game. The district will not comment further on this matter.”
