LONGVIEW — A leader whose effort and production in the pitcher’s circle or in the paint for her high school and junior college softball and basketball programs inspired her teammates, Port Angeles’ Nizhoni Wheeler officially became a Beacon this week.

A 2017 Port Angeles High School graduate, Wheeler led the Roughriders to a second-place finish at the Class 2A state softball tournament her senior season and was a two-time All-Peninsula Softball MVP and also an All-Peninsula Basketball MVP.

She went 10-6 with one save and a 5.54 ERA in 115 innings, striking out 68 this spring, as the Red Devils advanced to the NWAC Tournament.
