KINGSTON — This weekend, sailing teams from Port Townsend, Central Kitsap, Kingston and Port Angeles came together for a regional scrimmage in Apple Tree Cove in Kingston. This was the final event for the Port Angeles team before taking a break for the winter; the local sailors finished strong.
Junior Ozzy Minard and senior Ella Schulz finished third overall. Senior Elliot Dahlin and junior Fern Knobel finished fourth.
Senior Luna Hutchins, who sailed with Charlie Kasten, an eighth-grader from Stevens Middle School, finished a personal-best eighth.
“This last regatta was my favorite, we had a good bit of wind, a little rain and a rainbow,” said Knobel.
“It was a great season. Our team is growing and Port Angeles is becoming a team to be reckoned with,” Hutchins said. “I can’t wait to start again in the spring.”
The spring sailing season begins at the end of February. The high school sailing program is open to all high school sailors within Clallam County and is sponsored by the Port Angeles Yacht Club and the Port of Port Angeles.
Founded in 2019, the Community Boating Program is a nonprofit group whose mission is to provide access to boating opportunities to youth and adults on the North Olympic Peninsula. The organization offers a wide range of services.
Salazar Painting first
PORT ANGELES — Salazar Painting took the lead in the Peninsula Soccer League by beating Windermere 6-4.
Both teams came into the match Sunday unbeaten. Pablo Salazar and Juan C. Cisneros each had two goals for Salazar Painting, while Raul Medina scored and Sabrina Wilk scored on a penalty kick. Cisneros and Salazar each had assists, and Medina had two assists.
Ben Schneider had two goals and two assists for Windermere, while Josiah Long and Gabe Long each had goals.
With the win Salazar Painting is 6-0-1 with 19 points, while Windermere is 5-1-1 with 16 points.
Forks FC beat High Energy Metals 3-2 to tie Windermere for second place. Forks FC got goals from Oscar Gonzalez, Crecencio Barraga and Hugo Sandoval Sr., while High Energy Metals got goals from Scotty Chichester and Andrew Cooper, with an assist to Lijah Sandford.
Forks FC is 5-1-1 with 16 points.
In other matches, the Bandidos FC beat Pura Vida 7-3. Zander Anderson had four goals, while CJ Daniels, Andrew Rodgers and Sabrina Wilk all had goals. Wilk and Rodgers also had assists. For Pura Vida, Edgar Aceves had two goals and Rafa Flores scored one. The win put Bandidos in fourth place with nine points (3-4-0).
Strait Slice also beat Pantry & Latch 3-1. Rob Walton and Kalani Dix had goals for Strait Slice, while Mike Ingraham scored for Pantry & Latch.
Peninsula VB League
PORT ANGELES — No Diggity, Killin’ It and Steim Dental all improved to 2-0 in Peninsula Volleyball League B Division play Monday night.
No Diggity defeated Timber Spikes 2-0 (25-14, 25-19), Killin It got by Harbinger 2-1 (25-23, 22-25, 15-12) and Steim Dental came from behind to beat Orv’s Ohana 2-1 (19-25, 25-10, 15-7). In Monday’s other match, Hot Peppers bet Set For Life 2-0 (25-7, 25-11).
