AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Port Angeles Illusion third at state tournament

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Illusion girls softball team went 3-2 and finished third out of 13 in the 16U B Division this weekend at the NSA State Tournament in Tri Cities.

Illusion opened up pool play on Friday with a 4-3 win against Spokane Stealth and on Saturday, Illusion faced a tough Snohomish Shock team falling 7-1.

Playing in the consolation bracket Sunday, Illusion opened up with a tough 8-7 win against the Tigers and followed that up with a 9-0 win over the NCW Sundevils. Game 3 was against the Selah Softball Club. Playing Game 3 in 90 degree heat finally took its toll and Illusion fell 9-6 to finish second on the consolation bracket.

Free Tennis clinic

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles High School tennis coach Gil Stockon is running his annual free tennis camp for kids entering the ninth grade and older.

The camp will run from July 16 to July 27. The time for incoming freshmen is 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and the time for older high school boys is 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The camp will be held at the Port Angeles High School tennis courts.

Players should bring their own water and sunscreen.
