First-place Raymond limits Forks Spartans

FORKS — The Spartans struggled with turnovers in a 65-46 home loss to the Class 2B RPI No. 1 Seagulls and their Washington State-commit Kyra Gardner.

Gardner scored 36 points to lead all scorers.

“She took over the game on both ends of the floor,” coach David Hurn said. “She had to have a double-double with steals.

“We did a pretty good job in the halfcourt defensively, but gave up way too many points in transition off of turnovers. We were -22 in the turnover battle.”

Forks (7-2, 8-5) hosts Clallam Bay on Saturday.

Raymond 14 21 19 11 — 65

Forks 8 16 10 12 — 46

Forks (46): Wood 11, Neel 11, Johnson 10, Ramos 7, Gaydeski 4, Sandoval 3.

Riders swimmers win

POULSBO — A week off didn’t appear to hurt the Port Angeles boys swim team which won six individual events and two relays to beat the Kingston Buccaneers 105-63 earlier this week.

The 200-yard individual medley relay team of Blake Nahory, Adam Weller, Josh Gavin and Alex Che teamed for a win to open the meet and closed out the meet with a 400 relay win.

Gavin also took top individual honors in the 200 IM and posted what coach Sally Cole described as an “impressive” 100 butterfly time of 58.96 seconds to set personal records in each event.

Weller notched wins in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, finishing 10 seconds clear of the closest Kingston opponent.

Colby Ellefson set personal best times while winning the 200 and 500 free events.

These swimmers all earned district qualifying time standards along with Adam Boyd in the 200 IM and Che in the 100 breaststroke.

Another personal record for the Riders came in the 100 breast with Junior Aidan Butterworth finishing in 1:18.87.

Port Angeles hosts North Kitsap today.
