Roughriders, Wolves team up for win

SILVERDALE — Port Angeles and Sequim softball players teamed up for a win as the Nationals came back from a 7-2 deficit to earn an 11-7 win over the Americans in the 18th annual Softball Showcase All-Star Game presented by the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable.

Port Angeles junior Teagan Clark was picked as the Nationals MVP after she threw three shutout innings in the middle of the contest as the Nationals rallied.

“She pitched three innings, struck out four, walked two and gave up a hit and went 1 for 2 at bat,” Roughriders coach Randy Steinman said.

Port Angeles senior Ava Brenkman was 1 for 2 with a double and junior Zoe Smithson was 1 for 2 with a double.

“Roughrider senior Jada Cargo-Acosta turned one double play and handled all her chances at shortstop, including a backhanded grab and throw to second to get the lead runner,” Steinman said.

Port Angeles junior Peyton Rudd and Sequim senior Jayla Julmist and juniors Christy Grubb and Lilly Fili also played in the game, which was broadened from a senior-only contest to an Olympic League-plus South Kitsap all-star game with players from all grade levels.

Lefties seek public address announcer

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties are looking for a new public address announcer after Dan Harvey, the team’s Civic Field voice since the team’s inaugural 2017 season, stepped down.

The Lefties will play a 39-game home season starting June 1 and the announcer must arrive an hour before first pitch.

A public address announcer is not a broadcaster, but a blend of master of ceremonies, information source, entertainment, a DJ and more.

A script is provided with spots to read along and spots for freestyle improvisation.

For more information, email matt@leftiesbaseball.com.
