Roughrider youth hoops camp slated

PORT ANGELES — Youth basketball camps for boys in grades three through eight will be hosted by the Port Angeles High School boys basketball program at the school from Tuesday through Thursday July 25-27.

Boys entering grades three through five will go from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Players in grades six through eight will follow from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Roughrider head coach Kasey Ulin said his coaching staff and high school players will help teach the camp.

The cost is $40 per player. Each camper will receive a T-shirt.

Ulin said players should bring basketball shoes, a water bottle and the excitement needed to get better.

Marathon meeting

PORT ANGELES — A general volunteer training meeting for the North Olympic Discovery Marathon will be held at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

All volunteers and interested volunteers are invited to attend.

Volunteers will receive a T-shirt, a ticket to the volunteer party, volunteer assignment and instructions and a schedule confirmation.

Register for Hurt

PORT ANGELES — Registration for individual and team portions of the Big Hurt, Port Angeles’ four-leg endurance competition is underway at www.bighurtpa.com.

The Big Hurt will be held Saturday, Sept. 23.

The race includes a 16.5-mile mountain bike ride down logging roads and forested trails to West End Park downtown, a 3-mile kayak section along the waterfront, a 30-mile road bike course from downtown out toward Freshwater Bay and a 10-kilometer run along the waterfront portion of the Olympic Discovery Trail.

Those interested in tackling the entire race can enter the Iron Division, while teams of two to four people can split up duties in the team competition.
