Ryana Moss voted North Olympic League girls basketball MVP

LONGVIEW — Port Angeles alumna Bailee Larson (2022) is having a spectacular sophomore season for the Northwest Athletic Conference’s Lower Columbia Red Devils women’s basketball team.

Larson was a soccer and basketball standout with the Roughriders.

In her second season with Lower Columbia, Larson leads a balanced Red Devils (19-6) offensive attack with 14.8 points per game, one of four LCC players averaging in double figures this season.

She’s also put up per-game averages of six rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.4 assists while starting all 25 games for the Red Devils and is second in minutes per game with 30.2.

Lower Columbia is tied with Green River for the top spot in the NWAC West with two games to play this season.

Moss is NOL MVP

NEAH BAY — Neah Bay senior Ryana Moss has been selected by North Olympic League girls basketball coaches as the league’s Most Valuable Player for 2023-24.

Moss leads the No. 1-seeded Red Devils (19-2) into the Class 1B state regional round tonight against No. 8 Curlew at 6 p.m. at Tacoma Community College.

She’s joined on the first team by senior teammate Amber Swan and younger sister Cerise, a sophomore.

Crescent’s Naomii Sprague and Ciara Cargo-Acosta also were selected to the first team after leading the Loggers back to the playoffs.

Second-team picks were Neah Bay’s Angel Halttunen and Ezrah Ray; Crescent’s Alexis Dunavant and Chloe Ferro-May, and Clallam Bay’s Leyre Garcia Martinez.

Honorable mention went to Audrey Gales of Crescent and Clallam Bay’s Brilei Hull, Lillian Scordino, Simona Cruz-Lopez and Aizhan Talantbek Kyzy.

Neah Bay’s Cherish Moss was selected as Coach of the Year and the Red Devils also earned the Team Sportsmanship award.

First Pitch Banquet

PORT ANGELES — Tickets are on sale for the Port Angeles High School Baseball Booster Club’s First Pitch Banquet set March 16 at the Naval Elks Lodge, 131 E. First St.

Attendees will meet the players, coaches and get excited for the 2024 Roughriders baseball season.

A dinner, silent auctions and raffles are planned.

Irrigation run series

SEQUIM — Registration is open for the Irrigation Festival Run Series, a half-marathon, 5K and 1-mile walk set May 4-5.

The 5K and 1-mile walks will be held May 4 and are out-and-back events originating from Carrie Blake Park at 9 a.m.

Registration is $12 for the 1-mile walk/run, $25 for the 5K and $70 for the half-marathon.

The half-marathon will start at 8:30 a.m. May 5 at the Gardiner Community Center and follow the Olympic Discovery Trail to Carrie Blake Park.
