Torres-Benito moving on to Sacramento St.
PORT ANGELES – Peninsula College sophomore Shantel Torres-Benito signed a national letter of intent this week to continue her soccer career with the Division I Sacramento State Hornets.
The forward out of Waipahu, Hawaii will join the Hornet women’s soccer team in the fall. Sacramento State belongs to the Big Sky Conference.
“Shantel has been a great player for us for two years,” head coach Kanyon Anderson said. “She is very fast and dangerous on the ball, but her defending is what makes her even more valuable in my opinion. Her intelligence and work rate on the defensive side of the ball are huge reasons why we were able to win tough games in the playoffs.”
“Shantel will have an immediate impact at Sacramento State and while we will miss her here, I am very much looking forward to seeing her success at the next level,” he added.
Bitegeko named
UNIVERSITY PLACE — Neah Bay senior Sean Bitegeko will play for the Class 1B team in the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game on Saturday at Curtis High School.
The game will feature Bitegeko and the 1B All-Stars versus a team of Class 2B players headed up by Gonzaga-bound Brock Ravet.
It is the first of three all-star games and will start at 2 p.m. Class 1A vs. Class 2A follows at 4 p.m. and Class 3A and 4A will tip at 6 p.m.
Bitegeko averaged 16.5 points and 13 rebounds per game for a Red Devils team that returned to the state tournament after a year’s absence.
BMX work parties
PORT ANGELES — Lincoln Park BMX Track will hold a work party today at the track from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
Winter storms took a toll on the track and help is needed to get the facility ready for the upcoming season.
A Lincoln Park BMX board meeting will be held at Vern Burton Community Center, 304 E. Fourth St., at 6:30 p.m.

Forks youth cheer
FORKS — Registration for Forks Youth Cheerleading will be held in the back room at Pacific Pizza, 870 S. Forks Ave., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 16.
Kids going into grades two through seven in the 2019-20 school year are eligible to participate.
A $35 fee due when registering.
