KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Peninsula College women’s soccer team is ranked No. 3 among Div. II community colleges and the Peninsula College men’s soccer team is ranked No. 6 in the latest rankings from the United Soccer Coaches.
Both teams were undefeated going into their matches Wednesday. The men are 12-0-0 and the women are 11-0-2. The Peninsula men and the women have combined for 19 shutouts this year.
Interestingly, the Highline College women are right behind Peninsula at No. 4. Highline and Peninsula have played for the NWAC championship three out of the past four years, with Peninsula winning two of those matches.
Among the men, Whatcom is ranked right behind Peninsula at No. 8 in the nation. Whatcom and Peninsula, both in the NWAC’s North Region, played a couple of weeks ago with the Pirates earning a hard-fought 4-2 win in a very physical match at Wally Sigmar Field. That is Whatcom’s only loss on the season. The teams meet again in Bellingham on Oct. 27.
PA graduates compete in college XC meet
PORTLAND, Ore. — Three Port Angeles High School graduates competed against each other in the Lewis & Clark College Cross-Country Invitational held this past weekend in Portland, Ore.
All three finished among the top half of the runners.
Kynzie DeLeon of Portland State finished 83rd in Saturday’s 6K race with a time of 23 minutes, 41.6 seconds. Gracie Long, who was DeLeon’s teammate for a couple of years for the Roughriders’ cross-country team, finished 111th with a time of 24:23.5. She runs for Corban College in Salem, Ore.
Maggie Martin, running for Lewis & Clark, finished 112th with a time of 24:24.1. Martin was actually a member of the Roughriders swim team. A total of 246 runners finished the race.
Basketball league will begin Nov. 7
PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Basketball League, an adult recreation league formerly run by the City of Port Angeles, will begin Nov. 7 and run through January on the new gym floor at Peninsula College.
Registration is now underway. The fee is $45 per player with no team fees. Team captains can reserve their spot by emailing league organizer Donald Rollman at drollman@pencol.edu. Individuals can register online at gopcpirates.com under “events tickets.”
Participants must be 16 or older. Games will be played on Sundays at Peninsula College in a single division.
