Pirates receive NWAC hoops recognition
PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College men’s and women’s basketball players have received Northwest Athletic Conference’s Northern Region All-Region honors.
Peninsula College’s Colby Jackson has been named to the All-Region men’s basketball first team, while Forks freshman post Marky Adams was tabbed for the region’s All-Defensive Team, the conference announced.
Jackson, a sophomore point guard, leads the Pirates in points (16.8 points per game), assists (5.1) and steals (1.8).
The 6-foot-10 Adams is averaging 10.4 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks for Peninsula.
The Pirates (19-10) face Clackamas (17-12) at 8 a.m. Saturday in the NWAC Tournament’s first round.
Everett sophomore Gio Jackson was picked as Most Valuable Player and Trojans coach Mike Trautman was selected Coach of the Year.
Peninsula’s Ashlynn Sharp was named Northern Region Freshman of the Year and earned a place on the All-Region First Team and the All-Region Defensive Team.
Sharp posted a team-high 16.4 points per game along with 6.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals.
Pirates sophomore Jamellia Clark earned second-team honors. Clark averaged 14.7 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals for Peninsula.
The Pirate women (8-16) face Umpqua (28-1) today at 10 a.m. in the NWAC Tournament’s first round.
Bellevue sophomore Brenda Akoto was picked as MVP, and Bellevue’s Mel Stubblefield was selected Coach of the Year.

West Sound All-Stars
BREMERTON — North Olympic Peninsula high school seniors have been invited to participate in the 2018 West Sound All-Star high school basketball contests at Olympic College on Tuesday.
Both girls and boys skills competitions (Shoot Around, Hot Shot and 3-point contest) and games will be held, with girls’ skills events starting at 5:30 p.m. and the girls game at 6 p.m. Boys skills competitions will follow at 7:15 p.m. with the boys game at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students with ASB cards and free for age 13 and under.
North Olympic Peninsula girls players invited to participate are: Sequim’s Alisha Grasser and Kyla Armstrong; Port Angeles’ Cheyenne Wheeler, Devin Edwards, Natalie Steinman and Gracie Long; Port Townsend’s Kaitlyn Meek, Cece Nielsen and Jordyn King.
North Olympic Peninsula boys players invited to participate are: Easton Joslin of Port Angeles; Kaiden Parcher of Port Townsend and Payton Glasser of Sequim.

Soccer Academy
PORT ANGELES — Registration for the Peninsula Soccer Academy is underway at www.paysc.com.
The spring soccer program for U6-U17 players is presented by Port Angeles Youth Soccer Club and Peninsula College.
It is designed for players interested in enhancing their soccer skills and knowledge in a non-competitive environment.
Coaching is conducted by Peninsula College soccer coaches and players.
Those who register by Tuesday will be guaranteed an Academy T-shirt. Registration will continue through March 31 but shirts will not be included after Tuesday.
Sessions for U6 and U7 players will be held from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday from April 17 through May 22.
The cost is $45 for U6 and U7 players.
Practices for U8-U11 athletes will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from April 9 through May 31.
And U12-U17 players will train from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 9 through May 31.
The cost is $70 for U8 through U17 players.
All sessions will be held at Peninsula College.
