Peninsula men, women rout Shoreline

SHORELINE — The Peninsula College men and women’s soccer teams opened their second of three swings through North Division play with blowout road wins over the Shoreline Dolphins.

Sydney Warren scored twice to add to her NWAC-leading total of 13 goals as the Pirate women blanked Shoreline 8-0.

Janis Martinez-Ortiz also had two goals in the win, while Jordyn DiCintio dished out three assists. DiCintio leads the NWAC in assists with 13.

Shantel Torres-Benito and Taylor Graham recorded a goal and an assist each for Peninsula, while center back Halle Watson pushed forward to score her first goal as a Pirate.

Jayna Morikawa rounded out the scoring for Peninsula (6-0-0, 9-0-0). Akari Hoshino saved one shot to pick up her fourth shutout of the season.

PC Men win big

A hat trick by Cesar Gervacio and two goals from Juan Carillo led the Pirate men (4-0-2, 6-1-2) in a 7-1 win over the Dolphins. Gervacio is tied for the NWAC lead in goals (12) with Everett’s Aaron Byrne.

Dumitru Robu and Michael Benito also found the net for Peninsula in a game that saw two Pirate yellow cards and a red card for Calvin Aguirre. Shoreline also was penalized heavily, with three yellow cards and two red cards.

Peninsula hosts Everett for Pirate Proud Day on Saturday at Wally Sigmar Field.

The women open play at noon, with the men following at 2 p.m. Peninsula students can pick up a free Pirate Proud T-shirt, while the public can purchase a shirt with a small donation.

Coleman wins race

EUGENE, Ore. — BMX racer Taylor Coleman won the 13 Girls Class at the Northwest DK Gold Cup Championship last weekend.

Coleman, a freshman at Sequim High School, totaled the highest scores in two qualifying races and last Saturday and Sunday’s final heats.

She races locally at Lincoln Park BMX in Port Angeles.

Coed volleyball

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department hosts a coed adult volleyball league, with games starting the week of Oct. 16.

The league is open to men and women 18 years and older. Games are held at Stevens Middle School. Cost is $450 per team.

Players without a team can sign up and will be put on a “free agent” list.
