AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Peninsula College soccer teams earn wins over Everett

Peninsula men, women pick up division wins

PORT ANGELES — First-half goals by Juan Carillo and Joseph Hollimen (assisted by Carillo) stood up as the Peninsula men’s soccer team held off Everett 2-1 at Wally Sigmar Field on Saturday.

The win over the third-place Trojans (4-3-0, 6-5-2) kept the Pirates (5-0-2, 7-1-2) in second place in the NWAC North Division, just behind Whatcom (6-0-1, 9-0-2).

Peninsula (6-0-0, 9-0-0) blanked Everett 5-0 in the women’s game. No scoring details were available for this game.

The Pirates visit Skagit Valley for a men’s and women’s doubleheader with the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Warren honored

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College women’s soccer forward Syndey Warren was selected as the NWAC’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week.

Warren tallied a hat trick on five shots on goal to help lift the top-ranked Pirates to a 6-0 win over sixth-ranked Whatcom last week. She then added two more goals and an assist in a victory over Edmonds. Warren leads the NWAC in points with 31 on 13 goals (1st) and 5 assists through Wednesday’s games.

“Sydney is strong, fast and focused, said head coach Kaynon Anderson.

“She works exceptionally hard in training and in games. She plays her position very well and is calm in front of the goal. Besides scoring goals she does a really good job of defending and setting her teammates up. She is a kind and humble person so it’s fun to see her having so much success.”
