Pirate men scrimmage in Sequim today

SEQUIM — The Peninsula College men’s soccer team will host an exhibition friendly against Highline at 1 p.m. today at Carrie Blake Park in Sequim.

Admission is free.

The last-minute exhibition came about when the Seattle Stars canceled another friendly match with the Pirates that was previously scheduled for Monday.

Peninsula’s Wally Sigmar Field is unavailable today due to some scheduled artificial turf maintenance work and Civic Field’s sound system is being upgraded this week, so the school moved the scrimmage to Sequim, according to Athletic Director Rick Ross.

‘Trolls’ run Saturday

GARDINER — The third annual Valley of the Trolls, an event featuring a half marathon, 10-kilometer and 5k races, is set for Saturday.

The event is held at Troll Haven Bandy Farms, a troll-themed property at 950 Gardiner Beach Road, beginning at 8 a.m. Race organizers are challenging the citizens of Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend and Chimacum to compete.

The town with the most runners will have a donation made to the town’s high school track and field program.

All finishers receive a T-shirt and medal.

Curran raised more than $600 for the event benefitting cancer research, which included more than 2,000 riders.

Curran rode in memory of her late father, Larry Buckler Short, and for all those that are battling cancer.

“Special thanks to Tom Michowski, owner of the Bike Garage in Port Angeles, for generously loaning a new Fuji crossover bicycle for the event,” Curran said.
